Learn to create amazing digital multimedia using Adobe's creative suite software. This course covers two major competencies and is broken down into two, 18 week semesters. Semester one covers Design and semester two covers Video.
In semester one (which starts in the Fall) students will learn image editing and compositing using Adobe Photoshop ( 9 weeks) and vector graphics and illustration using Adobe Illustrator (9 weeks).
In semester two (which starts in the Spring) students learn video production and editing using Adobe Premiere Pro (9 weeks) and cinematic visual effects and motion graphics using Adobe After Effects (9 weeks). At the successful completion of each semester, students will receive a certificate in each of the two major competencies (design & video). Students may choose to complete one or both semesters. Students may also choose to work on Windows or Apple computers.
This course will prepare students for an apprenticeship or entry level position in the industries of marketing, advertising, media production, news media, photography, video production, animation and web design. Students are required to purchase 1 book for each 9 week class which can be found here. This course also uses online based tools to help instruct the curriculum. Students will also build, design and update their own online portfolios and learning blogs using Weebly.com's online web-builder platform. Students will work in creative teams on several projects to build industry soft skills needed in the areas of collaboration, team spirit and positive mental attitude. Students also take part in project critiques to ensure the highest level of understanding and application.
Prerequisites highly recommended:
Students should have a solid understanding of basic computer skills before enrolling in semester one and a started portfolio or experience in design before enrolling in semester 2 (video).
This course, which is articulated with Southwestern College, allows you to earn college credits through the 2+2 program. Begin your portfolio, create awesome projects, and have access to amazing software.
